Blogging Goals for 2010

I was all fired up for Bloggiesta. I couldn't wait to get home from work to get started. I had a to-do list ready. I steeped some Chinese Jasmine tea. And then I hit a wall. Where to start? So I headed over to Maw Books to check out the mini-challenges and right off the bat say Rebecca's mini-challenge "Set Goals for 2010" which seemed like as good a place to start as any.

Every January, I make the usual resolutions: lose weight, get more organized, paint a few rooms, etc. And every year, I make it about a month (just like you, I would guess) then I start to taper off. This year I resolved to make fewer resolutions. And I'm going to try to keep my blogging goals to a doable number as well.

1. Work on putting more of my own voice into my reviews. This is something I've been trying to work on for the past few months and I'm getting closer to where I want it to be.

2. Take notes while I'm reading to make writing the reviews easier. I've resisted this. It felt too much like homework. So I think I'll use an index card so I don't get too carried away. I've been wanting to include more quotes and this will help with that as well.

3. Reach out to authors. I'd like to include more guest posts and author Q & A's. Who knows--some of the authors might not even be with us any more!

4. Get back to doing Friday Favorites. There have certainly been plenty of books I've loved over the years.

5. Do Sunday Salons every Sunday--on Sunday!

How to reach the goals? I've already begun working on a blogging calendar for this year to help track some things. I'll plan to work on Friday Favorites and Sunday Salons on any day that I'm not doing a book review. And I'll use this weekend to start reaching out to authors. Thanks Rebecca for encouraging me to do this!

  1. Mmmm, I love Jasmine tea. These look like some great goals. I really should try and get organized by doing a blogging calendar. I always debate about taking notes as I read but when I really get into the story I hate to stop to write notes.

  3. "Who knows--some of the authors might not even be with us any more!"

LOL! Are you going to be having posthumous author seances? :)

This is a great list--the index card idea is great. I need to do that too!

Good luck with all that--I'll be back to make sure you're sticking to the plan ^_^ (I'm a follower now)

  4. Fabulous goals, and thanks for participating in my mini-challenge! I've been working on putting more of my voice into reviews and making them more personal as well, so I related to this a lot. Best of luck in 2010!

  5. Happy Bloggiesta! I have the opposite goals as your #1 for my reviews - I always feel I'm waaaaaayyy too informal. Maybe we two should do a joint review / interview and see if we can bring more of YOU into it and less of my nutty style of writing like I talk...
    Happy bloggiesta!

  6. Good luck with your goals! :) I feel like the older my blog has gotten, the more of my own voice has gotten added, to the point that when I started vlogging, I got comments that I talked exactly like my posts. LOL

The way I mark passages I want to include in reviews is to dogear the bottom corner. But I know to some people that would be sacrilege! So you could make some of those origami corner bookmarks, and use those instead. :)

  7. By the way I object to Eva's defacement! :--) I use stickies!

I have had the same problem as you: my goal-awareness recedes very quickly. I wonder what is a good way to maintain goal-mindedness throughout the year?!!

  8. I know! I would have trouble folding pages; but I do like the idea of origami corner bookmarks. Wonder if I can get my daughter to make those for me?
