Friday Finds - February 19

Okay, okay, I know it's not Friday. But Friday I was celebrating Christmas. Yeah, I know that Friday wasn't Christmas either. Not for anyone except, perhaps, my family. We weren't all able to get together in December, thanks to Mother Nature, and this was the earliest we could celebrate with each other.

I do seem to have something of a theme going this week--must have been hankering for books that were really centered on character.

The Girl Who Fell From The Sky by Heidi W. Burrow

The Girl With Glass Feet by Ali Shaw

The Man From Beijing by Henning Mankell

The Man From Saigon by Marti Leimbach

Of these, I think that The Man From Beijing is the one I'm most anxious to get my hands on. I had, earlier in the week, heard a radio program about the Chinese presence in Africa and then Friday I heard about this work of fiction which deals with that same subject. Mankell is also the author of the series of books featuring Kurt Wallander, which have been seen on Masterpiece on PBS starring Kenneth Branagh.

Thanks to Miz B, of Should Be Reading, for sponsoring Friday Finds.

  1. I've been hearing about the Mankell book as well - I'd like to know what you make of it.

I hope you enjoy The Girl with Glass Feet.

Thanks for your kind comments about my Grandma earlier in the week. :)

  3. I have read all the Wallander books (in English) and I have seen all Six of the BBC adaptations. I loved the books;couldn't put them down. Mankell's long history with Africa comes out in several of them. He is a well traveled, brilliant author and has lived both in Sweden and in Africa. He is extremely knowledgeable about both.

I also loved the BBC/PBS adaptations. Once I started watching one, I was up half the night, watching them all. The first season has hours of extras, including an in depth discussion between Branagh and Mankell. The second season was fantastic as well, with more behind the scenes extras (just not as many)

  5. Great list! I just sent my husband off on a business trip with my ARC of THE MAN FROM BEIJING ... he better return with it.

Funny that you have THE MAN FROM SAIGON this week, too.
