Sunday Salon - February 6

A short one this morning because I'm reading and getting ready to cheer on the Packers.  Found this great picture at www.whatsoldisnew.tumblr.com where they are talking about fairy tales and thought it tied in perfectly with last week's Fairy Tale Friday featuring Cinderella.

Stephanie, from Misfit Salon, is co-creator of "Shattering The Glass Slipper", a creative writing contest featuring original works based on the Cinderella stories.  Entries are posted at the site and, as of tomorrow, you can vote for the winner. I'm very impressed by some of the submissions they've gotten.

Coming up this week I'll have a review of Elyn R. Saks' memoir The Center Cannot Hold as well as reviews of several short stories.  For this week's Fairy Tale Fridays, I'll be talking about the various versions of Sleeping Beauty.  Talk about a girl who needed saving!

What are you reading this week?

  1. I'm working on The Poisonwood Bible and A Walk in the Woods for this month's Reading Buddies books. So far, so good! I'm getting ready to cheer on the Packers, too...though mostly just because I'm an anti-Steelers fan. I'd be cheering whoever was playing against them!

  2. Go packers! I'm reading Little Bee this week and Across the Universe. Good luck in your reading as well!

  3. The Packers, huh? I could care less either way, but my husband is from PA as is all his family and my brother-in-law from WV, so it will be Steelers Steelers Steelers tonight for us. Wishing I could just crawl into bed with a book but we'll be entertaining (short notice, not a happy Trish). Hope you have a great night!

I've always liked Sleeping Beauty fairytales but prefer Beauty and the Beast.

The Steelers are my team!! :]

And I've seen quite a bit about that Tumblr lately. I haven't been on Tumblr in ages it feels like! I need to check that out!

  5. Thank you so much for posting about the contest, Lisa. I had a blast reading the entries - so hard to pick just 10! And I love the comic. I have that thought every time I go to a ball ... or I would if I ever went to any.

  9. I have to say I'm not a football fan. I am glad it's all done and now it's back to baseball!!! But hey the packers are close to me so why not?
I plan on finishing up Anatomy if Ghosts and the new Joy Fielding mystery!

  10. Not a football fan, Michelle? Oh, well, I like you anyway. I shall now fall into something of a depression without football. I'll watch my Cornhuskers and the Minnesota Gophers play baseball and the College World Series but I don't pay any attention to pro ball until the fall.
