Life: It Goes On - September 15

It's grey, it's cool, and it's rainy here this morning - woohoo! Just the kind of day to curl up and read. I had such a productive day yesterday that I'm going to take some time today to do just that.

It's a sad day in Husker Nation. Unless you're like me and a) are able to get over the football game when the game is done and/or b) cheer for all Husker teams in which case you're happy because the volleyball team won it's third match in as many days last night. Go ladies! We are a particularly superstitious lot here, though, and next week there will be some tweaking of Husker gnome placement and a change in which Husker gear we're wearing. Because, yes, we really can influence the outcome of the game!

Here's What I'm:
Arcangelo Corelli

Listening To: Arcangelo Corelli's 12 Concerti Grossi Opus 6 this morning. My dad raised us on classical music, particularly on Sunday mornings.

Watching: Sports and not much more.

Reading: I'll finish Truman Capote's In Cold Blood by tomorrow then I'll start Marisha Pessl's Night Film on my Nook.

Making: Pasta sauce with herbs and tomatoes from the garden to freeze, breakfast burritos which I wrapped and tossed in the fridge for quick breakfasts, and variations on the traditional S'more. Those were a big hit with the young people that were at my house for a fire the other night! I'm still looking for a good alternative to graham crackers but we found quite a lot of good alternatives to plain chocolate bars.

Planning: I've got some furniture I want to get painted today if the weather cooperates. If not, I'm going to start working on Christmas gifts.

Grateful for: The rain; it's been so dry here the past few weeks.

Loving: Miss H finally having her driver's license. Except for the fact that now I have one more thing to worry about when I hear sirens nearby!

Thinking: I might just break out a can of pumpkin this week. Pinterest, you evil creation, you've broken me down with all of your pumpkin recipes!

Looking forward to: Book club this week with our extra guests as we discuss Lily Koppel's The Astronaut Wives Club. It's going to be a good discussion - my mom and I have already been talking about the writing.

  1. Oohhh... I love the idea of opening a can of pumpkin and using pinterest inspiration to create a fall dessert.

I hope you have a great week, and the Huskers do better next weekend.

  3. How are you finding In Cold Blood? I enjoyed that one quite a bit when I read it a few years ago.

  4. I look forward to hearing what you think of In Cold Blood! And I broke down and bought Night Film but I probably won't read it for a while. Pumpkins!! Send some of that cool weather our way! I love fall but don't want to wait another month for it. And congrats to Miss H!

  5. The Corelli sounds like soothing background music. I wish I knew more about classical music. I know what I like, but wouldn't have a clue what to choose if I wanted to buy a CD. Making Christmas gifts - you're very organised! Have a good week, Lisa, and I hope you get done all you've planned to do.

  6. Interesting! The things that I do affect the Green Bay Packers scores too. We're magical! ;)

I hope the weather cooperated and you were able to paint!

  7. I need to remember to add pumpkin to my shopping list. Last year, I used it in my morning smoothies with a little bit of pumpkin pie seasonings. Yummm!

Isn't this weather wonderful?! I wore a sweatshirt yesterday while walking our dog. We've had about 2.25 inches of rain in the past few days. Lovely!!

That game. Oh, that game. Probably my fault for not wearing red (or black). Sigh. At least we weren't play the Ducks. They pretty much killed Tennessee.

  8. We (finally!) have a new driver in at our house this week, too. It's both a relief and another worry ... so true. Congrats to Miss H!

I'm a huge pumpkin fan, but have yet to have my first pumpkin spice latte of the season. This week for sure :)

  9. I'm glad I don't get too tangled up in football results, because with the NY Giants throwing their first couple of games big time, I'd be down the rabbit hole right now. I had a love/hate feeling when my kids got their licenses - but it was definitely a relief not to be doing the delivery to practices anymore.

  10. So sorry about the Huskers...football pain is something I can certainly sympathize with!

I'm looking forward to your review of In Cold Blood.

I love S'mores. There are cookies/crackers called "Marie" that might make a good alternative to Graham Crackers, esp. if you put chocolate or Nutella or something equally yummy on them! Goya makes the Marie biscuits but several other brands do, too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_biscuit

    Have a good week, Lisa

  11. Pumpkin, yes! I made pumpkin cocoa the other night! Delicious. I want it to cool off just a bit more. Loving the rain too. We've gotten a ton of it the last few weeks. I can't wait to hear how Night Film is! looks so good :)

  12. I've got your In Cold Blood review saved so I can read it and comment. I've been wanting to read that one for years so I'm interested to hear what you thought.

I'm with Heather...pumpkin...PUMPKIN!!! I love it so much I even have pumpkin body spray. I got it from a AVON and they don't make it anymore so I've been looking online for it or a variation. I'm obsessed! Have you ever made pumpkin cookies? They are SO good...frosted with cream cheese frosting. YUM!
