Life: It Goes On - June 1

Happy 56th wedding anniversary to my parents today! Things I have learned from them: a) marriage is a partnership, b) it's okay to fight sometimes as long as there are more times that you are treating each other with respect and love, c) sometimes life is hard but you work through it and move on, d) family is everything. The Big Guy and I have been blessed to have both of our sets of parents as marvelous examples of marriage to mold our own marriage on - probably why we've made it almost 32 years now! Love you two!

Here's What I'm:

Listening To: What Is The What by Dave Eggers - so good! Love the narrator. I have a hard time making myself get out of the car when my journey is done.

Watching: Looking forward to the season premiere of Longmire on A & E tomorrow night. Thanks to BG's brother for turning us on to this show. The show is based on the "Walt Longmire" series written by Craig Johnson. I really need to try the book series as well.

Reading: Blew through Lisa O'Donnell's Closed Doors this week; one of my favorite books of the year. I'm starting On The Island today for a special book club meeting next week then I'll start Natalia Sylvester's Chasing The Sun for another TLC Book Tour.

Making: Turquoise trophies! You know those trophies your kids get just for being on a team? A couple of months ago, I cleaned all of those out of Miss H's closet but I got to looking at them and thought they might be fun painted. They haven't found a permanent home yet but I'm kind of loving them.

Planning: On spending today cleaning out the garage. This is BG's realm but when I can no longer get to things I need out there, it's time for an intervention. Arguments will ensue - I believe there is a limit to the number of rags you need to wash a car; BG does not.

Grateful for: Air conditioning. Seriously, it's been in the upper 80's with humidity even higher than that. I do not need to be sweating just trying to keep the house picked up.

Loving: Having a weekend with nothing on the agenda. I've had time to get things done around here and hit up the flea market and a couple of Goodwill stores. No great finds, though.

Feeling: Annoyed with whichever critter in my backyard decided to eat the strawberries that had just ripened. A barrier will be made today to protect them; not sure why this was never an issue last year.

Looking forward to: Harvesting my first crop of lettuce today!

  3. I love those turquoise trophies! They look splendid - great idea! I just cleaned out our garage a few months ago and am not looking forward to stepping in there anytime soon. Why do men's domains get untidy quickly?

  4. Love that idea for the trophies! My parents have a box of mine in the attic which come up for discussion about tossing about every year. I like the idea of transforming them. Have a great week!

  5. It's been really warm here with a little bit of humidity. We Californians are not used to humidity at all. My hair is very confused.

I have to do some tidying up today but I don't plan to do much. The garage looked like it could be weeded through but I convinced myself in less than 5 minutes that it can wait ;)

  7. I love the idea for the trophies! I might do this with AWP's. What a fun idea.

Congratulations to your parents for a long, successful marriage.

My lettuce is ready too - I will harvest some when I get back from a quick trip to Orlando. I love getting to consume food grown from seed!

  8. A weekend without plans sounds lovely. I think that will be next weekend for us and I can't wait! That's maddening about your strawberries! The humidity has shown up here too. I didn't miss it at all and my hair really didn't! Sounds like you're getting some great reading done. Congratulations to your parents for their 56th anniversary!

  9. Fifty-six years is very admirable! Congratulations to your parents and happy anniversary.

I have only seen a couple of episodes of the television show Longmire and wasn't overly impressed. I love the books though.

I'll have to keep my eye out for Closed Doors since you liked it so much!

Last weekend was our weekend to clean out the garage. My husband is still sorting through a few boxes of his he had in there--old papers and journals, memorabilia type stuff. It can be hard to know what to keep and what to toss. Will our daughter want to see any of it when she's older? I ended up donating a lot of stuff. We can now fit both cars in the garage, so that's saying something!

I hope you have a great week, Lisa. It's going to be a long one for me. I am working a double shift on Thursday. I kind of wish it was today so I could get it over with! I started a new exercise routine today. Hopefully my motivation to stick with it will last.

  10. Happy anniversary to your parents! We are traveling to Toronto in a few weeks to celebrate my grandparent's 60th anniversary--it's so refreshing to see long-term couples still in love.

Garden critters. Something is eating my sweet potato vine that I planted in my flower garden. Maybe snails? Someone said to put out a beer trap but I haven't tried it yet. I'm also worried about hornworms on my tomatoes again but I'll just deal with it as they come. Boo critters! LOL!

I love those trophies!! What a great idea! And good luck with the garage. Scott always handles the garage (we don't park in there anyway) but I get a little feisty when I feel the HOUSE we LIVE IN should get cleaned up first. Sigh.

    Have a wonderful week!

  11. Congrats on long marriage wonderfulness! And give the guy some slack on the number of car washing rags. Seriously? if that is what you have to argue about, God Bless.

I have strawberries, too. No lettuce planted, though.

  12. Great lessons from your parents. Showing love and respect WHILE you're arguing is the sign of a great couple. I also love "work through it and move on." It's the moving on that is key!

We've been "moving on" through many things for almost 32 years. Congrats to you for the same.

We did the garage cleaning last weekend - or HALF of the garage. The other half is waiting till the boat isn't in the way. And yes - there were a few disagreements over what was trash and what was treasure. :)
