Life: It Goes On - January 18

Any one else starting to get so paranoid about the flu that's going around that you're becoming a hermit? Every little sniffle making you nervous? No? Just me? I'm so freaked out about it that when I was feeling a bit "off" the other night, I even missed a girls' night. So unlike me!

This Week I'm:

Listening To: Besides the podcasts that have been filling my drive time, I've been listening to a lot of music lately. No new musical discoveries though.

Watching: "Downtown Abbey" is back! We are actually talking about cutting back on our cable package so there will be fewer choices on tv for me. There is so often nothing on to watch even with all of the channels we have and it's much too expensive for that to happen. I think I have finally convinced The Big Guy that we could actually just turn the tv off more often. I'm going to get so much more reading done! Or we will become Netflix addicts.

Reading: I am stuck. I've been reading Tana French's The Secret Place for almost a week. And I'm not even half way finished with it. The worst part is that it is really quite good. But I just can't make myself sit down and read right now.

Making: Cream of corn soup, Chinese lemon chicken, taco pie, peanut butter popcorn, turkey and the fixings, and (with the leftover turkey) turkey and rice soup. Today I'm pulling the cookbooks out again to find some other new recipes to try.

Planning: On finishing up my decluttering of the kitchen this week. I got waylaid in that process this weekend when I did some work on the front hallway. You wouldn't think a closet and a dresser would take so long. I need to get a shelf up in the closet to get it finished but that's just a matter of finding what I need in the basement.

Grateful for: The gorgeous weather we've been having. We have the door open today! It's weather breaks like this that make it possible to survive winter.

Enjoying: Time with all three of my kids this weekend.

Feeling: Productive - the pile to "donate" grows every day. Now to get it out of my house.

Looking forward to: Book club this week. We'll be discussing Rainbow Rowell's Landline. I'm eager to hear what everyone thought of this one; I'm anticipating some mixed feelings but that makes for great discussion.

  1. I sure hope I don't get the flu. I did get the flu shot, but of course, it doesn't protect against the big culprit this year. Fingers crossed that we will be okay!

  2. Hah, I had mixed feelings about Landline. Of course, I listened to it on audio while running on a treadmill (miserable experience) while I was stuck working in Folsom for 3 weeks (also a miserable experience). So I think that might have affected my feelings...
Also, fair warning...I'm coming over to raid your refrigerator.

  3. I'm becoming less worried about the flu and more worried about the Measles! My daughter hasn't had the second shot yet (not old enough), but with the current outbreak in Southern California, it's made me a little nervous. Probably should be more worried about the flu . . .

I've been listening to more music lately too. I understand about the reading. I'm there too. I'm reading a very good book, but having trouble sitting down to actually read. I also haven't been in a review writing mood--which is bad, considering the one review I still need to write I have to post this Thursday. I probably won't have time to write it until Tuesday. I hope I remember what the book was about . . .

    Have a great week!

  4. When I went to urgent care for this sinus infection, I convinced myself I'd leave with the flu so on top of everything, I've been sucking down vitamin C. Just yesterday my fever spiked again so I upped the C, drank tea all day and passed out. Today, better. You are not alone.

  5. Enjoy your book club meeting. Lisa. I managed to get to mine last week in between the periods of snowfall. (The snow comes and goes overnight and we'll be glad when we have some better weather). I have a Tana French reserved at the library when I can get there to pick it up - not the latest. My TBR book pile is mounting up again! Have a good week.

  6. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks of Landline. I haven't read it yet but I'm really looking forward to it. I need to get productive and get stuff cleared out. I have more than a few drawers that are full the to bursting. Have a great week!

  7. We cut the cord about a year ago; the only time I really miss cable is during big sporting events. Not having ESPN is a PITA sometimes. However, between Netflix and Amazon Prime, we have more things to watch than we will ever need. So what if we are watching shows that everyone watched a year ago or more? It is so worth it in my opinion.

I hope you can avoid the flu! This is the time of year I take stock in antibacterial wipes and really get on the entire family about wiping down handles and light switches. Call me paranoid, but I haven't had the flu in years!

  8. Ahhhhh the kitchen declutter. I did great on my decluttering projects last year until it came time to do the kitchen. Sigh. Wishing I could tell my younger self not to register for all of that crap when getting married...but yet I can't seem to get rid of it because what if I need it in the future! I don't want to have to buy it again.

And yes to the flu. It's going around the girls' school--the class that shares a bathroom with Elle's had 1/3 of its kids out last week. Three have been confirmed in Elle's class and Elle had some of the same symptoms but tested negative. Can't wait for warmer weather and all of this snotty business to be behind us! Stay healthy!!

  9. Forgot to mention--curious about Taco Pie! Is there a recipe somewhere that you follow?
