I'm sure he was concerned for his own safety. Now that we can just call 911 anonymously, I would hope more people would call. I don't know when I first heard of the case myself, but it seems like it was always in the background of my consciousness. I have to wonder if the timeframe also contributed to the bystander affect--people were still reeling from the McCarthy era, they were building bomb shelters, and being involved in one's community was not a priority--people wanted their houses to insulate them from life. That's my take on it anyway.

Good review!JaneGShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11094501834387622997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-18627517019094170942016-03-08T15:46:18.757-06:002016-03-08T15:46:18.757-06:00Definitely eager to read this one. Ryan's book is fiction but tries to imagine what may have happened in some of the homes around the time of the murder. I loved that book - it made my favorites list and this murder sort of haunted me. So I will have to check this one out.Athirahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03366654538383603004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-62974860400626905762016-03-08T11:40:03.382-06:002016-03-08T11:40:03.382-06:00That last quote you shared is very powerful. I'll have to add it to my wish list. Lots of thought provoking stuff here. And it's good that the 911 system was one of the results. I suspect that all of us could ponder 'what would I do?'.
