I'm not sure why, other than this overall aversion I have to anything "people" claim to be a classic.Ryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17786139533776263328noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-58901882930327225092012-11-29T18:33:31.375-06:002012-11-29T18:33:31.375-06:00I might read along if you embark on East of Eden. ...I might read along if you embark on East of Eden. I loved East of Eden when I first read it at 18, again as I approached 30, and most recently about 5 years ago. Today I consider it one of my all-time favorites. If you get the urge to try his nonfiction, I highly recommend Travels with Charley.JoAnnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13691864361197071517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-83012689780714941092012-11-28T10:15:25.779-06:002012-11-28T10:15:25.779-06:00East of Eden rocks. But East of Eden was my first Steinbeck chunkster and I was surprised by how readable it was (even if he does go off on some tangents about the land). If you're ever in Salinas (which is a total armpit of a town, so you probably won't ever be), the Steinbeck Center is totally worth a visit.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-60496826811233886442012-11-28T08:23:29.459-06:002012-11-28T08:23:29.459-06:00I have never read any Steinback and I think I'...I have never read any Steinback and I think I'm missing out. This book sounds so good! Just that little bit you quoted shows me what a talent Steinback was. Wow! I need to get me to Cannery Row asap!
