I have the hardest time wrapping my head around what exactly literary fiction is, same with women's fiction. Is Wolf Hall and Bringing up the Bodies historical or literary--both, I think. Are Diana Gabaldon's Outlander novels not literary because they are wildly popular? Are they fantasy?

I tend to read across genres, really only avoiding scifi that deals with extraterrestrial stuff and horror (unless it's a classic). Rather than genre, I look for the quality of the writing--I can't read a poorly written book regardless of how good the story is. Plot doesn't matter if the words don't sing.JaneGShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11094501834387622997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-75092323094402324102013-05-29T10:34:45.378-05:002013-05-29T10:34:45.378-05:00I hadn't really thought about how there wasn&#...I hadn't really thought about how there wasn't any genre fiction early on. I find myself drawn to historical fiction, fantasy and sci-fi, and young adult. And I do enjoy a classic now and then.Heather G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/18051840056392247706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-85959628262494603952013-05-29T10:22:58.876-05:002013-05-29T10:22:58.876-05:00I was recently lent The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles. Especially travel by middle aged women who go to amazing places and do interesting things. Favourites were A Bike Ride by a middle aged retired English headmistress who travelled Napoleon's trail by bicycle and also Alice Steinbach's travels before she died. Inspiring women.Travellin' Penguinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06286703342642772792noreply@blogger.com
