Somehow this book lived up to my expectations. I can't say I agreed with it, but I definitely enjoyed being challenged by the author through the themes of death, ghosts and coming back from the dead? It was something very horrifying to actually read about and as different from TTTW as it could be. That said, I'll only recommend that should you choose to read TTTW, don't expect it to be similar or even having minor shades of HFS. They are as different as can be.Athirahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03366654538383603004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-64133764099480582372010-10-16T07:40:11.033-05:002010-10-16T07:40:11.033-05:00TTTW was a good book - though I have to be honest,...TTTW was a good book - though I have to be honest, it seemed unnecessarily "gritty" in some parts, and that took away from the romance of the story. I actually preferred the movie.

THIS book though... I couldn't stand it. I agree, I like the way that the author handled death and being a ghost, but Martin was a far cooler character than V & J. Actually, ALL the characters were cooler than V & J. And the "solution" that V came up with to escape J was so silly... almost as bad as the "suicide by sled" solution in Ethan Frome.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11196903315080725315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-90455683452162976162010-10-15T16:45:10.270-05:002010-10-15T16:45:10.270-05:00I haven't read either! I thought the movie a disappointment, however. And HFS was odd but I give Niffenegger props for being creative. It is possible to love one book by an author but not care for a different book. For me, I would say I loved Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go but didn't get into a few of his others. :)Carehttp://bkclubcare.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-29917915458114845242010-10-15T11:01:56.505-05:002010-10-15T11:01:56.505-05:00I have been on the fence about this book, but afte...I have been on the fence about this book, but after reading your review I think I am going to have to skip this one. And truthfully, HFS was not an amazing book, but there was just something haunting about it that truly captivated me and I found myself enjoying it. There was just something there. As for TTTW, that book was just over-hyped and I wished I had not wasted any time reading it. I did not care for the characters and their dramas and just found the whole book to be mediocre at best. I would say skip it, but that wouldn't be right. I suppose if you have the time to squeeze it in, go for it - you may end up liking it. Different strokes and all that, right?Nadiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14315207186180201488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-69376494286630864472010-10-15T10:23:45.955-05:002010-10-15T10:23:45.955-05:00I started this book months ago but have yet to fin...I started this book months ago but have yet to finish it.
