This is the sort of book I would get out of the library just to, hopefully, read about life in the kitchens in Hanoi and Tel Aviv as most of the travel/food genre books I buy must include recipes and techniques that I will use. I'm guessing this lady had the financial backing to be able to travel and work in kitchens around the world and it's a pity that the book didn't receive better editing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-38099797609159951622011-10-12T03:25:57.658-05:002011-10-12T03:25:57.658-05:00I looked at this book but decided against it. It's too bad that you didn't edit the book because I'm sure I would want to read it then. She must have forgotten that the reader wanted to experience her journey not the food network! Loved your honest re yew of this one!Stacihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07600979915661464945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-73652660961698520072011-10-10T15:08:01.522-05:002011-10-10T15:08:01.522-05:00I was excited about this book when I read the titl...I was excited about this book when I read the title. I'm sorry the book wasn't what you hoped for and expected but if you ever want to prepare a dish from wd-50 for me I'd love to try it! I don't understand why the author would include specifics on cutting and prepping crab and other such steps. I can see including that info in a cook book but it's not going to interest many readers of this book. The book sounds a little painstaking and tedious, too which is disappointing.

I'm confused about why when the author came out of culinary school she didn't follow the route most chefs do and get a job in a kitchen in a rstaurant starting at the bottom and working her way up to sous chef etc. Maybe she explains this in the book and so I'll probably never know! lol

Thank you for an honest and great review, LisaAmyhttp://homeofaimala.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-88023368417095425842011-10-10T13:26:34.963-05:002011-10-10T13:26:34.963-05:00Oh, I am sorry to hear that this one was overly de...Oh, I am sorry to hear that this one was overly descriptive and at times boring. I had high hopes for this book, as I love getting a behind-the-scenes look in restaurant kitchens, but it sounds like this might not have been the right book for that. I don't think I will be adding this one to my collection based on your review, but I did enjoy reading your candid opinion on it!Zibileehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07443338685890187334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-61866292952449262142011-10-10T10:21:49.191-05:002011-10-10T10:21:49.191-05:00What a great idea and opportunity - to learn the c...What a great idea and opportunity - to learn the cooking of four different countries in the countries themselves. Too bad you felt it was too detailed though the combination of travel and food sounds like an enticing read.Harveehttp://bookbirddog.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
