And although I love Lionel Shriver as a writer, I found the novel wholly unnecessary.Ryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07998996750944114185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-44587279129584879532013-04-26T13:05:08.109-05:002013-04-26T13:05:08.109-05:00Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this book for ...Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this book for the tour.Heather J @ TLC Book Tourshttp://tlcbooktours.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-21915267591355660042013-04-25T17:18:10.999-05:002013-04-25T17:18:10.999-05:00This NEW REPUBLIC was pretty awful. Well, I just started reading a galley of her upcoming novel, BIG BROTHER. She's back!!!Mauriceonbookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16972712708286809096noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-90482977712819363622013-04-24T23:08:20.818-05:002013-04-24T23:08:20.818-05:00My mom just finished the Kevin book. Those kinds of things really upset me and I don't think I could take it. Watching the movie was hard enough and I know the book would be even more palpable. Mom said it was a really tough read.

You are so right, Lisa. There is never a right time to write about terrorism coupled with satire.

Great review, as always!Michelle Stockard Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03572227726980569386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-84344254789432886342013-04-22T12:53:10.127-05:002013-04-22T12:53:10.127-05:00I love Shriver, but the thing is, she is always ta...I love Shriver, but the thing is, she is always tackling hot button issues with her wit and and a peculiar brand of comedy that is not for everyone. Granted, Kevin was not in the least bit funny. It scared the crap out of me. But her other works are blends of comedy and satire that I love, and make me slightly uncomfortable as well. I don't think we will ever be ready for a satire on terrorism, and I have had this book for about a year, and have not read it yet. I want to, but it's not the right time, and I don't know when it will be. You make some excellent points in this review, but I still like Shriver :)Zibileehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07443338685890187334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-87049534196413543072013-04-22T11:59:29.528-05:002013-04-22T11:59:29.528-05:00I haven't yet read anything by Shriver, but I ...I haven't yet read anything by Shriver, but I do plan to read We Need to Talk About Kevin soon (part of my unofficial theme reading project).

I am sorry this one wasn't better for you. It sounds like Shriver takes an interesting approach to her subject matter. I don't know. I can't say I was anxious to read this one even before your review, but now I'm leaning more readily in the "pass on it" side.Literary Felinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13079276242303738719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605456781483914021.post-13395194312591836522013-04-22T10:23:01.441-05:002013-04-22T10:23:01.441-05:00I wasn't too enthralled with The New Republic ...I wasn't too enthralled with The New Republic either (http://manoflabook.com/wp/?p=8185), but I saw it more as a satire about journalists than about terrorism.Man of la Bookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11561603511163982556noreply@blogger.com
