Life: It Goes On - December 13

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! Not so much weather-wise (although that will change this week); it's been raining much of the weekend instead of snowing. Still, there's just a festive air that's beginning to hang over the city - beautiful light displays, fun events, and the people in the stores are still largely pleasant. What d'ya think? Another week of that before people start to get frantic?

This Week I'm:

Listening To: Finally Christmas music! Nothing like a little Frankie to get me in the mood.

Watching: Every Christmas show I can find - Rudolph, The Grinch, Scrooge (with Albert Finney), and Disney's A Christmas Carol. And volleyball - our Lady Huskers are going to the Final Four!

Reading: Finished Kafka On The Shore and will finish Everything I Never Told You tomorrow for bookclub this week. After that the plan is to finish Extra Virgin and Faithful Place and to read something Christmasy before the holidays.

Making: Today was day one of goodie making with the family. We knocked out most of it, even added a couple of new things: chocolate peppermint almond bark, Bavarian mints, puppy chow, dipped pretzels, and brownie truffles. We got to introduce Mini-me's girl to our traditions - hopefully we didn't scare her off!

Planning: Time to start wrapping presents this week, finish making gifts, and prepare for a visit from The Big Guy's brother and his wife on their way through for the holidays. It's always nice to have them all to ourselves for a bit.

Grateful for: Sunrises like this one - we've had a lot of great ones lately that [kind of] make getting up early worthwhile.

Enjoying: Time with old friends. You know, the kind who've known you so long that they wouldn't judge if you showed for dinner in your pajamas.

Feeling: Like I just might get it all done without racing around like a chicken with my head cut off. Just cookies and caramel corn to get made yet, the house is finally all decorated, the cards have been mailed and I'm well on my way to being done with shopping. It's a good feeling.

Looking forward to: Book club this week.

What you are looking forward to this week?

  1. We attended the Winter Festival this past weekend and had a nice time. People weren't all nice, unfortunately, but at least Mouse didn't notice. I am officially done with my holiday shopping, thank goodness. I'd forgotten I needed an ornament for a office party this week and a gift for one of Mouse's friends. I took care of those this past weekend. I've been going crazy watching Christmas shows and movies too. :-) And reading Christmas books, although my current read isn't one--I needed a little break from that, to be honest.

Enjoy the rest of your week! I hope things calm down for you some. At least before the final Christmas rush. :-)

    1. What a shame that people weren't nice at the Winter Festival - that's the kind of place where you would expect people to be in their best humor.

  2. Ooh! Like the goodies you made. They look sweet and yummy.

  3. It's actually cold here. 39 at 9am is pretty darn cold for us and we are all dying.

I saw you guys talking about Kafka on Twitter. I am not always sure if Murakami has a message or not. I don't think he writes that way. I think when he writes he is in the moment and not thinking of the words mean something larger until it's done and staring at him. He doesn't know how his story will end when he starts it either. I just love the open-endedness. Many people do not though.

I am falling behind with my movie watching but today is my last day of work so maybe I can catch up.

    1. I would really like to be able to talk the hubby into a movie marathon weekend so we could catch up on movies. Maybe after football is over for the year.
