Sunday Salon - March 18

Goodness, what a glorious week it's been here - in the seventies every day which is just unheard of for this early in March. It's made me sweep through the house, rolling up rugs, packing away blankets, clearing off surfaces. It feels so good!

Thoroughly enjoying watching the NCAA Basketball Tournaments - mens' and womens'. I don't watch a lot of basketball during the regular season but I do love to watch it this time of the year. It helps to have a race in the horse this year; my husband went to Creighton University so we enjoyed watching them Friday. It does really cut into my reading time, though!

This week I'm bound and determined to have my review of In The Garden of Beasts finished and posted. I have no idea why that one's giving me such fits. I'll also have a review of The Sun Also Rises which the Omaha Bookworms chose for this years classics read. We'll be discussing it on Tuesday; I'm looking forward to hearing what the other ladies thought of it.

This weekend I finally started The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series. Having heard so much about them and having seen the movies, I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to finally seeing what all of the fuss is about or wondering if I even need to bother. As I finish each book, though, Mini-him has asked that I pass the books along; it will be fun to discuss them with him as he gets through each one. I'm so thrilled that my boys are both big readers and we get to talk books with each other. They certainly have their own interests when it comes to books but we often overlap in the books we're interested in, which is fun.

What are you reading this week?

  1. I agree it's so fun to discuss books with members of your family. I love when I get to do that! For what it's worth, my husband and I both liked the books much better than the movies. We didn't even see the 3rd movie, and haven't gone at all to see the American version.

  2. I found that the first 100 pages of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo were tedious. But once through that, it's a wild ride. Enjoy.

I'm reading Kurt Vonnegut for the first time in ages. Yes!

  3. In the Garden of Beasts, huh? Looking forward to your reactions to that one. Are you going to join Sandy and I in the haters camp?

  4. Sounds like we've had the same week with the nice days and the b-ball on the TV. :)

I'm reading Nora Robert's Happy Ever After right now.....

  5. I also watched the movies and I loved them but have been having a hard time wanting to read the books because the movies were so violent. But soon, I'm thinking. though, I haven't seen the new one out from the U.S.

I'm reading Contact by Carl Sagan. It's pretty good. It's pretty different from the movie as well. Have a great reading week and week in general, Lisa!

  7. I will be SO interested in hearing what you think of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!!

And for In the Garden of Beasts, I've been thinking of throwing it in with some mini-reviews.

Sun Also Rises would be a great one for book club discussion!!

Hope you're having a great Sunday.

  8. The Sun Also Rises is one of my favorite books. If you can find the old movie with Errol Flynn, you will have a real treat!

  9. My daughters, who are not avid readers, both read this and loved it. I just can't bring myself to read it. It doesn't sound appealing to me. Let me know what you think.

  11. I am still way behind on my reviews and since I continue to read, I am falling more behind as the days pass. I have about 6 to write up, but I am finishing three more books today so now I am really behind.

  12. I will be curious to see what you think of Dragon Tattoo. I hate when reviews are so difficult to write. Hopefully you will have no problems this week with Garden of the Beasts.

I'm with you on NCAA tourney season. My reading has slowed to a crawl as I spend my days and evenings watching nothing but basketball. It is the one time of the year where I can sooth my love of this sport, as Jim is not a huge fan but will watch the tourney for the sake of his bracket. Men!

  13. I agree with you about the NCAA tournament. The rest of the year I would as soon have teeth pulled as watch basketball, but during March there are so many close endings, and all the hype makes it fun. I really think all games should be just 2 minutes long because the last two minutes is the only interesting part.

I've read (or listened to, actually) the first two of the Larsson series and loved them. Fun that your son wants to share them, also. The only problem I had was keeping the names straight because, when read with the correct Swedish pronunciation, several of them sounded alike. Maybe it would be easier to track on paper.

Hope you enjoy! Have a good week.
