Life: It Goes On - June 7

I just realized that The Big Guy has a coupon on my desk for fireworks. It must really be summer at last. We have even, finally, turned on the air conditioner. Which doesn't mean it's stopped raining; it just means that now it's raining and it's hot and it's getting humid. What fun!

Miss H and I were shopping yesterday and I found some really cute Fourth of July serving pieces I was certain I needed. But I should probably have some plan to entertain on the Fourth before I buy them, right? I might just have to put those plans into action. Add one more thing to the calendar which is filling up despite the fact that we have no kid activities to tie up our summers any more. What is your summer calendar looking like?

This Week I'm:

Listening To: I finished up The Story of Beautiful Girl - still working out how I felt about this one in the end. Also caught up with a couple of episodes to Gretchen Rubin's podcast "Happier." I listened to a segment about Abundance Lovers versus Simplicity Lovers which really struck home.

Watching: I know the television's been on every night but I really can't think of a thing I've actually paid attention to, other than "Aquarius," starring David Duchovny. Really enjoying this one, although I'm a little confused by their time line.

Reading: Both Misery and Reading Lolita In Tehran for readalongs. I'll finish Misery soon, although I'm more than a little afraid to keep reading, having some idea what's coming up. Then I'll start Dolan Perkins-Valdez' (Wench) latest, Balm, for an upcoming TLC Book Tour.

Making: Once again, not much of anything that I can remember other than linguine with lobster and taco salad. I have just not had any interested in being in the kitchen of late. What have you been making? I need some inspiration!

Planning: Nothing big in the works. I need to get back to some of the smaller projects I have to do around the house but things keep coming up that knock those projects off the agenda. We'll see.

Grateful for: Miss H's advice (and her often strong "no") when I've been shopping lately. She's steered me away from boring and into getting some new things that really are making me happy.

Chubbie Carrier & The Bayou Swamp Band
Enjoying: The Omaha Summer Arts Festival. We took some friends down and met Mini-me and his girlfriend and roamed the booths, ate some overpriced but yummy festival food, and enjoyed the zydeco music of Chubby Carrier and The Bayou Swamp Band. Having a couple of artists along gives you a whole new perspective on the art. I even picked up a few Christmas presents!

Feeling: Tired. I forget how into a regular routine I am until a week goes by when I'm completely out of my routine. Definitely throws me off kilter.

Looking forward to: The College World Series - opening ceremonies start Friday and we'll be heading down with some friends again. Such a great atmosphere and I'm so proud of the great job Omaha does hosting this every year.

  1. My regular routine has been off as well and I'm definitely feeling it! The College World Series sounds fun and good for Miss H for steering your towards clothes that make you happy. It's hard to step out of comfort zones but I love getting something that I really love and feel good in. Have a great week!

    1. The funny thing is that the things Miss H guides me to are always the things I feel the best in - sassy! You'd think I'd catch wise to that and start being braver. But I'm usually one to buy practical.

  2. Daughters are such a help when it comes to clothes shopping! And the summer calendar is a funny thing... doesn't seem that long ago when camps and sporting events filled it up. It's just as full now, but the activities have changed:)

    1. I wish Miss H had listened to me as well when she was a young teen as I listen to her now!

  3. I am ready for a routine. It's been a struggle this year, but I'm hoping after June that we can get into something more regular. I could use the structure.

    Yay for the CWS!

    1. With all you have on your plate, I'd think a routine would be vital to keep all of the balls in the air. How's the new job going?

    2. It's going really well. A bit slow, but that's to be expected at any new job. Also, I'm coming from a job that was unusually insane with a workload that was impossible, so this is a weird but nice feeling.

  4. It's supposed to be 102 today. It's not even officially summer yet. Ugh. I guess I should be glad to be in an over air conditioned building. :-) The Omaha Summer Arts Festival sounds like it was fun. I may try to get some of my Christmas shopping done while on vacation next month. We'll see.

    Enjoy your week!

    1. Yeah, I dressed for 97 degrees today then got to work and remembered that I need to always wear layers because it's so cold in there.

  5. I seem to have completely missed hearing about Aquarius. Need to check that one out. I hope you get to relax tons. I find myself tired as well if my routine slips.

    1. Definitely check it out, especially if your a fan of the 60's. I grew up with my dad watching the news ever night and I feel like so much of that era is ingrained in me even though I was little.

  6. It sounds like you have been busy! I'm looking forward to reading Balm, Wench was a favorite for me. Glad to hear that you like Aquarius...I'll need to go back and watch it. So many great new shows.

    1. I'm trying to avoid new shows as a general rule. I'd love to have the tv off a lot more - love me some peace and quiet.

  7. I'm hopeless when my routine gets muddled. This past week I've been sick with a bad cold and it's really thrown me off. I'm lucky if I remember what day it is. Lol.

Good for Miss H. New things that make you happy is always a good thing. I think I'll finish up Misery too. I was going to leave it till later in the month but I really don't want to. It's a great audio. Hope you enjoy Balm. I thought it was good. I enjoyed her first one better but this one was still good too. Hope you have a good week Lisa.

    1. I'm really enjoying Balm so far and it may be just the thing to keep me away from Misery for a bit until others catch up a little.

  8. Aquarius has been on my radar too. Loving it. The Summer Arts Festival looks fun! I hope you find some foodspiration soon!

    1. I did throw together some rhubarb/peach crisp tonight but I think my foodspiration is going to need to be more fresh fruit, quick and easy, eat on the patio kind of food. Maybe some new salads.

  9. Can I borrow Miss H? I need that kind of advice in my life. What I really need is someone to help me quickly cull my closet to only what fits and I love. I tend to keep clothes - it might fit again someday! I might need JUST THAT OUTFIT for an event?! ugh. I have too many clothes...

    1. Cull your closet? Now that's were I come in! I'm great at keeping my closet down to just what I really use. Most of the time if I bring something into the house, I'll check to see if there's something that needs to go.

    Have a fantastic week, Lisa!
