Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon

It's that time again!  Can I just tell you how happy I am that the Cornhuskers were thoughtful enough to play on Thursday night, freeing up 4 hours for me today?  My pile of books to choose from has changed and changed over time.  I've got some big books I'd like to make some progress in but I've no plans to finish, a couple that I'm definitely going to get to, and a couple more that I'd like to get to.  But...maybe I still need more choices.  For now here's what's in my pile:

And, of course, the requisite snacks.  Why do we think that if we're sitting on our rear ends all day reading, we need to eat more than we would otherwise?  A reward?  Surely I don't need to be rewarded for doing something I've chosen to do and love doing!  But I'm still going to enjoy my popcorn and chocolate!

Thanks to Trish of Love, Laughter and A Touch of Insanity for the template for keeping track of what I've done during readathon!

  1. Sounds like you have a great day planned!! I can not wait until 3:30 est. time today. The BIG game for Michigan is on with Michigan vs. Michigan State!!! We're divided in my house and family. I have a cousin who plays for U of M, I went to State and my son/brother/cousins are huge Wolverine fans!!

I am reading whatever tickles my fancy at the time!!

  2. Great stack of books! I loved The Hours, really want to read The Forgotten Garden and I enjoyed The End of the Affair although I didn't think it was Graham Greene's best.

    Love the snack grouping, too!

Good luck with your reading & reconciling on-line time with reading, something I had trouble doing last year!

    Be back later!

  8. (Non)traditional Buddhist readathon blessing:

Just as the books fill the shelves,
Pile together on the floor and stack up on the table
So may the joy of the readathon
Flow forth to brighten your day and lift your spirit.
Books already read, books in progress and books yet to be read.

By the power of every word on the page
    May your book be delightful,
    As scary as Lovecraft’s Cthulhu
Or as sweet as a box of See’s candy.

Let the power of the images evoked by words
Keep you stay awake long through the night
    May no obstacle impede
    Your day filled with books.

For all of those who are reading today
Who follow in the path of Dewey
May your day be filled with the four blessings
Of fabulous books, tasty snacks, comfy chairs and joy.
