Sunday Salon - August 1

How can it possibly be August already?! Where did the summer go? I had such grand plans to spend lazy summer days reading, evenings on the patio with a glass of lemonade (not really, I don't drink lemonade but it sounds better than a glass of white wine) and a great book. Completely has not happened. I took 5 books on vacation and only finished 1 1/2--although I blame that partially on the book that I read; I did not like it at all and would not allow myself to pick up anything else until I had struggled through it.

Two weeks ago I started a new job. I'm not required to bring work home but one look at the desk I inherited convinced me that there was no way I was going to be able to function there. So I've been bringing piles of paper home every night to sort, toss and organize. That has been almost the sum total of my reading this week. Whoopie! But I've spent a lot of time this weekend finishing it up and I'm so hoping to have August to get back to reading actual books.

With bringing work home and working overtime, I haven't had much time to visit blogs either. I finally got my reader down to 120 this evening so if I haven't stopped by your blog in a while, it's not because I don't want to! I have been reading posts like crazy this weekend so I at least know what you've been up to even if I haven't left a comment.

Time to toodle off to bed--with a book and an hour left to do some reading. Have a great week! What are your reading plans this week?

  1. Sounds a tough week. Even mine has started out very haphazard!

  2. I had grand plans too. I was going to sit outside and enjoy the summer breezes and read my books. Unfortunately with 100 degree weather, there were no summer breezes. I only sat out once, and that was when I had no power for 27 hours!

    But, there is still August.

  3. Well, that doesn't sound very fun, but if that desk was that crazy it's no wonder that person was let go!! I hope you get it under control enough so that You can get back into the swing of reading!!

That's why I don't use Google Reader!! LOL...I have about 65 blogs that I visit and that's pretty much it, otherwise I'd get nothing done :D

  4. I HATE that about starting a new job - trying to sort through the previous person's mess.

I had the same idea of summer - reading outside, going to the beach, etc. Has hardly happened at all.

So here's to making the best of August!! *clinking pretend white wine-filled glasses*

  6. Maybe I should outsource reader-reading to someone. LOL! My summer blazed by with work. There was hardly any reading done. I hope we both manage to tame that reader!

  7. I truly can't believe how busy this summer has been for everyone... I feel like I haven't been able to enjoy it at all and now it's almost done!

  8. It sounds like you have had a very busy schedule in the past few weeks! I hope things begin to calm down soon and you can get some reading time in! Take care and have an awesome week!

  9. It impresses me but saddens me that you have to take work home. Really! THEY BETTER APPRECIATE IT! Schedule organize time at work for one hour. IT's PART of the job, I'm sure; otherwise the job design is inaccurate.
    Go read something fun.

  10. I'm so jealous of the Sunday Saloners. I hope they open membership again soon. Welcome back from your vacation. I've got a one-word answer for a book you're struggling to finish: audiobook. See if your book is available on audio. It has helped me over some humps. I'm just catching up on some reading and reviews. Have a great week.

  11. There's nothing worse than being stuck on a book during vacation. I hate that!

  12. I had to tame my reader too. It's back under control now. Glad you're back from vacation and hopefully well-rested. Have a great week.

  14. It is so scary how fast time flashes past.
It is a real pain when work gets in the way of your private time.
Hope you enjoyed your hour of reading.
Not much time this week for reading, What little I have will probably be spent going over my proof.

  15. It's criminal how fast this summer went by. I drank pleny of Pimm's Cups so I at least accomplished that. I also read some really good books but vacation reading was non-existent.

How is the new job going? We are going through another re-org...they happen each year here. Not sure how it will affect me yet.

My kids start school next week so I may be a bit behind in blog reading until they settle into their schedules.

  16. I hope it gets better for you Lisa! We've been working crazy hours at work as well and so my blogging/reading as really suffered the past couple of months. I hope you can find a good routine (or just get through those stacks!!).

  17. Hopefully you won't have to bring home papers to organize for much longer.

I've actually been on a major reading kick lately. I'm always reading, but I've been borderline addicted to my books lately. Tonight I'm planning on starting The Middle Place. Planning at least...you never know what is bound to happen on a Friday night!
