Sunday Salon - February 27

Getting geared up this week for Miss H's 16th birthday--I cannot believe my baby could be that old!  We're building a computer for her so she will have her own and I will finally get my computer back.  Does that make it more a gift for her or for me?!

Lots of fun bookish things to share with you this week. First things first: for all of you Austen lovers, Jane from Reading, Writing, Working and Playing has an entry in a competition for Austen related stories.  Jane knows what she's doing when it comes to this kind of story--she's the author of Intimations of Austen: Stories Inspired by the Works of Jane Austen.  Jane's entry delves into the character of Lucy Steele from Sense & Sensibility (#23 in the competition).  Please take a minute and vote for Jane!

From Kitty at Truth, Beauty, Freedom and Books, comes this YouTube video about organizing your bookshelves.

Something in this post for environmentalists, artists and book lovers alike--art using old books.  I never cease to be amazed by the creativity of people.  I'd love to have a couple of these pieces in my home!

How's this for the perfect desk for a book blogger?  We could build them with those ARCs that we can't get rid of any other way.

For those of you who also love movies, here's a post from The Huffington Post about movies from previous years that have been made into movies.  What's you favorite book-to-movie?  Least favorite?

  1. I love the clever ways they used books!! I've never really sat down and thought about books to movies...wait, I hated Julie and Julia the book, but really liked the movie!

Happy Sweet 16 to Miss H!!! What a bittersweet time for you Mom!!

  2. Happy Birthday to your daughter Lisa! I think that present kind of works in your favor too. lol. Have a great week!

  3. Hi there! *waves* Hope you had a great week. =O) And Happy Birthday to your dear daughter!

My favorite book to movie is Silence of the Lambs. Worst...Queen of the Damned. They RUINED my favorite book. Grrrrr!

  4. That video is crazy. It's cool, but someone had WAY too much time on their hands, LOL!

  5. Happy Birthday H! I think you are getting the gift of getting your computer back ;)

    Have a great week!

  6. It sounds like your daughter is going to have a wonderful birthday! My favorite book turned movie was Lonesome Dove. It was so faithful to the original material! If you haven't seen it, or read the book yet, you must do so!

  7. Definitely sounds like a great birthday and my birthday is this week too!! Good week to be born! :)

  8. Sounds like a great birthday for your daughter... my birthday is this week too... fun week to be born!! :)

  9. Thanks for the shout-out, Lisa!

Aw, I enjoyed Queen of Damned. :)

  10. Happy Bday to the girl!

I love all things bookish. I see stuff on Etsy all the time that catch my eye. I saw that bookshelf video on FB, someone posted it. Sure is clever.

  11. Happy Sunday and Happy Birthday to your girl! I absolutely love that book table. I could certainly make something like that at my house with all those ARCs, like you said!

As for movies and books, I was impressed with Mystic River, in print and on screen. I think they captured the feeling of the book perfectly and the casting was right on!

  12. Happy 16th Birthday to Miss H! A computer sounds like a terrific birthday gift (for both of you!)
Your idea to build a desk from ARCs is a great idea! I love the pictures of different things people create with books!

Hmmmm....I'm not sure what book to movie I like best. Some of the movies made from Pat Conroy books are quite good. I also liked Howard's End and Room with a View.

I hope you had a good week!
    ~ Amy

  13. That desk is awesome! I love it!

    Belated bday to your daughter!!
