Life: It Goes On - The Mother's Day Edition

Happy Mother's Day to every woman who is, has been, is going to be a mother and to all of those who have been like a mother to a child. It truly does take a village to raise a child. We will get to celebrate with my mom, my sister and I'll get to have all three of my kids with us which is rare these days with their school and work schedules. We spent a lot of yesterday working outside undoing winter's damage and giving the front of the house a facelift, a project I hope the rain will hold off long enough for us to work on some more today. I'm still trying to figure out what color I want to paint the front door, though! The house is white, the shutters are blue and the light fixtures will soon be black. Suggestions?

There used to be a tree in that front bed - so glad it's gone!
Here's What I'm:

Listening To: You Know When The Men Are Gone by Siobhan Fallon which I started on Friday. So good!

Watching: "Orange Is The New Black" on Netflix. I wish  my mother-in-law were still alive so I could talk to her about it; she worked in the women's penitentiary in Nebraska so she'd be able to shed light on how real it was.

Reading: The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty. I haven't read a book set in Australia in a long time. What are you reading this week?

Making: I've been very uncreative this week - although any week with chocolate chip cookies and guacamole is a good week.

Planning: A facelift for my patio when the front porch is done including a bench we're going to make from barn wood and some store fixtures.

Love you, Mom!
Grateful for: Twenty-two years with my mom that I wasn't sure I was going to get when Mini-me was just a baby. Beyond grateful for these years!

Loving: All of the rain we've gotten this week - it's turned everything so green and lush.

Looking forward to: A trip to buy flowers this afternoon, time with my kids and time with my mom!

  1. I've got a thing for red front doors, but maybe that's just me. ;-) Hope you have a great Mother's Day. The weather is just beautiful here, so since mom has already been celebrated, I think I'll be spending some time on my front porch with Say What You Will by Cammie McGovern, which I didn't mean to be reading, but sucked me right in!

  2. Happy Mothers' Day! I recently saw the photo of a house with a lime green front door. It was beautiful! (I'm a fan of slightly unconventional and bold colors!)

  3. It'd definitely be interesting to compare Orange is the New Black with someone who actually worked in a real prison. I do wonder how accurate that is! Sounds like you're having fun with freshening everything up! The front door is tricky. You could always paint the door to match the shutters or paint the door a color that's in the same palette but 3 or 4 shades deeper. Enjoy The Husband's Secret! I've heard great things about it but have yet to read it!

  5. My reading is all over the place this week. I am reading The Circle (Utopian world), Under a Summer Sky (sweet story) and Cutting Teeth (good so far but just started it).

Sounds like you had a decent weekend. I hope you had a nice Mother's Day.

  6. I hope you had a nice Mother's Day, Lisa! Mine was a quiet one. I hope you enjoy The Husband's Secret. I thought it was good when I read it.

One of the gifts my husband promised me for Mother's Day is a future trip to the nursery to buy some plants and flowers to plant in our yard--he also is gifting me his labor to dig holes. The weather is getting so hot though, I don't know. We'll see.

  7. Hope you had a great Mother's Day! You Know When the Men Are Gone really made an impression on me - I never appreciated how much the families sacrifice in addition to the soldiers.
