Life: It Goes On - January 24

Happy Sunday! It truly is a happy Sunday here - we are both officially out of quarantine, no matter how many days the CDC says it should last and we both survived CoVid-19. We're still battling the fatigue and I continue to have some lung issues that are being treated - we have learned the truth of the stories of mild cases that we've heard, even a mild case is nothing to be overlooked. This is the third weekend that I have been low on energy and you can all imagine how long my to-do list is after that many wasted days off work. On the plus side, CoVid brain (which I've learned is a thing), is gone and I can finally focus on books again and I've been reading up a storm the past few days.

Last Week I:

Listened To: Finished David Chang's Eat A Peach, which was recommended in a podcast but I can't for the life of me remember which one; started Natasha Trethewey's Memorial Drive (this one's going to break my heart); and Hamilton (I mean, it's been a couple of weeks so it was time, right?).

Watched:
We watched some good stuff this weekend! Friday we watched Gary Oldman in Mank; he is, as always, incredible but I was also impressed with Amanda Seyfried as Marion Davies. Last night we watched Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Viola Davis disappears into the title role but Chadwick Boseman, in his final role, is incredible. He was so thin by then; I have no idea how he mustered the energy required for  his role.

Read: I finally finished J. Courtney Sullivan's Friends and Strangers and find that I'm still waiting for her to live up to my memory of Maine. I'm racing through Betrayal at Ravenswick for a TLC review soon; so far I'm thinking a cozy mystery World War I version of the Maisie Dobbs books. It's going to benefit from being the right book at the right time, I think.

Made: One of the areas that has suffered with having Covid is cooking; the good thing is that both of us have had reduced appetites as well. So I made a meatloaf and we had it three nights in a row. We cooked some chicken thighs and used them for meals for three days. I suppose it wouldn't be the worst thing if our appetites didn't come back any time soon - at least one of us (me!) has lost noticeable weight.

Enjoyed: The Inauguration. We thought it was so well done and that concert in the evening was amazing. The ladies brought the boom which was exciting to see. But who would have guessed Bernie Sanders would steal the spotlight?!

This Week I’m:

Planning: I'm getting back to work full-time this week which I imagine will exhaust me so I'm not planning much more than keeping up with cleaning and a couple of small projects I can do while sitting.

Thinking About: How blessed with are with the people in our lives. So many have checked in with us regularly the past couple of weeks and offered help.

Feeling: I went to Target with the intention of going in there yesterday but couldn't make myself it yet. Too many people. I didn't like crowds before CoVid; I wonder if I will ever be able to handle them again. I'm beginning to think I understand how people become hermits.

Looking forward to: Book club this week, even if it can only be by Zoom.

Question of the week: Are you breathing easier now that we've gotten through the transition peacefully?

  1. I'm glad to hear that you're both recovering well and I hope the return to work goes smoothly. We watched the inauguration with interest. All the best in these early days of the new political administration.

    1. We're in for a big snowstorm tomorrow so I think I've got at least one more day that I don't have to go into the office, which is nice.

  2. First off, I am happy to hear that you are out of quarantine and out of Covid-19. Really praying for you both that the after-effects leave your systems soon and leave you feeling like yourselves soon. I can understand those to-do lists but they will still be there. In the meantime, all the reading you are doing sounds like heaven - so stay with that and feel better soon!

I loved the Inauguration day events. Even if it was low-key, I think I just wanted to believe that the administration has changed and then enjoy that huge amount of hope that so many of us are feeling.

    1. Isn't it sad that we had to watch the Inauguration worried that something bad was going to happen? It was just the right mix of tradition, accommodation to the circumstances, and wonderful new things I hope will become tradition.

  3. Glad you are recovering and you have such wonderful friends and family to help you all through it. Good luck getting back to work this week and go easy on yourself! I know it takes time to recoop. Big hugs.

I am absolutely loving all the Bernie memes. It's kept my spirits up this week along with the peaceful transfer of power on inauguration day.

I was a hermit before Covid and now even more so...but I love being able to attend a few things virtually. This next week is the Sundance Film Festival and I actually get to see some movies because it's all virtual this year. Very exciting and I hope it's something they continue even after the pandemic.

I hope you have a great week and remember to take it easy! big hugs!

    1. Oh, golly, I didn't see that the Sundance Film Festival was virtual. I would have loved to see some of those movies!

  4. I'm glad you are feeling better and only had a somewhat mild case of the virus. We have Omaha friends who had it (all four family members) and one wound up in the hospital. He's much better, but it was pretty scary.

Enjoy your snowstorm! I sure don't miss that weather. :)

    1. I think this is going to be one of those winters where we still have the snow from that snowstorm well into March, what with frigid temps and more snow five times since that one. Yuck!

  5. Oh Lisa, sorry to read that the 2 of you had COVID but happy that you are feeling better now.

    1. I'll tell you, CoVid takes one heck of a long time to get over, even when you've only had a mild case. A month out I finally have a weekend that I have the energy to really get some things done.

  6. I am glad both you and your husband are feeling better. I've had several coworkers who have had COVID who had similar experiences. I don't blame you for not wanting to go into Target. It's been ages since I last went into one. I got my first vaccine at the local grocery store pharmacy this past week and that was the first time I had been in that grocery store since the beginning of March. My husband does all of the grocery shopping for us (since he's the cook). Mostly I order online.

I saw mention of Betrayal at Ravenswick on someone else's blog recently and it caught my eye. I will have to check it out. It sounds just like my kind of book.

I caught the Inauguration but missed the concert. I am glad to hear it was good too.

I hope you have a great week, Lisa! I hope you continue to feel better and make a full recovery!

    1. I need some things at Target this week and considered getting up early to go in while there weren't so many people there but I still can't make myself do it so pick up again it is. I'm with you - haven't been in the grocery store in almost a year but the hubby does go in for the things I forget to order.

  7. Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery! And we talked about Friends and Strangers a bit on Instagram, but I think you may have nailed what was missing.

    1. It's frustrating when you know an author is capable of more.

  8. Funny you mention developing an understanding of hermits... my husband and I were just talking about that! Wonder if we'll ever go back to doing all the things we did. It feels like the "too many people" feeling may never go away...

So glad you are continuing to feel better. My sister and BIL had it last spring and, like you, said even a relatively mild case is still a big deal. Take care and don't push yourself too much!

    1. I think we're all so much more aware of how easily we can get sick around other people. I can't imagine going into a restaurant any time soon and definitely not to a concert.

  9. I'm glad you both got through COVID relatively well. I'm sorry you are still fatigued but I guess that's pretty normal. My friend had it weeks ago, maybe 6 weeks ago and she is feeling great but can't do normal things without getting winded. Still.

I am breathing easier since the transfer of power took place. I know it's about to ramp up again but I am hoping it's not nearly as bad as what we experienced on 1/6. Interested to hear your thoughts on Eat a Peach. I follow him on Insta and like him a lot.

    1. Four weeks after we first got it and the hubby still has a dry cough, I've had issues with the medicine that I was taking for it, and the fatigue is still a battle. I can't imagine what the recovery time is for those who are sicker than we were.
