This week's Book List Meme, hosted by Rebecca of Lost in Books, ask you to take a trip down memory lane. Rebecca's looking for three books that take you back to high school. To be honest, I really can't remember what I read in high school--it was such a long time ago! But these three were probably read at about that time. I swear I also read some classics!
Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Orient Express." I read quite a few Agatha Christie books between junior high and high school. I really did prefer Miss Marple.
Stephen King's "Carrie." High school was the start of my many year love affair with Stephen King's books.
Colleen McCullough's "The Thorn Birds." I think even then I thought there were some creepy things about this book but I loved it anyway.
What books take you back to high school?
It is so sad to me that I have such a horrible memory and can't remember what I read and liked in High School. :( I used to read all the time and I can't remember anything. I wish I had kept every book I had so I had proof!
ReplyDeleteWe read the same books!
ReplyDeleteI also read a lot of Victoria Holt and even a few romance novels.
Funny how we change because I really don't care for romance novels now.
Cool post! Makes you dig through your memory. I started out reading Harlequin Romances because that's what my Grandmother always had!
ReplyDeleteThese were not the ones I had to read in school, but the ones I chose to read: Roots, The Chosen (chaim potok), The Thorn Birds, Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Winds of War, The Joy of Sex(!), Shogun, Trinity, Your Erroneous Zones (the beginning of my love affair with Dr. Wayne Dyer). I could go on...
ReplyDeleteI read The Thorn Birds ages ago, but I can't remember if I was in high school then or college.
ReplyDeleteInteresting... I haven't red any of these books but that isn't a surprise :).
ReplyDeleteThe only books I remember reading in high school are : Animal Farm, Death of a Salesman, and William Shakespeare complete collection (it was a year long course). I read every issue of Seventeen!
Thorn Birds and Carrie for sure!!!!!!!! I was so in love with Richard Chamberlain!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, Mari, I read Seventeen every month. I think I went pretty lightweight on my for fun reading because of the reading I had to do for classes. By the time you read your Shakespeare or Faulkner, your brain is read for a little Miss Marple!
ReplyDeleteI loved Thorn Birds.. I had a torn, very bad shaped copy... which had seen many years of reading in the family and friends circle of my uncle!
ReplyDeleteAnd I loved it... it has to be my fav till date!
I think I should re read it. But i am scared if I won't like it anymore :)
Great list, Lisa. I haven't read any of these books but they are all familiar to me. I have only watched the movie Carrie and that was scary enough for me!
ReplyDeleteCarrie for sure takes me back to high school along with Salem's Lot. I loved the Thorn Birds but you're right there were some creepy aspects but it's still a phenomenal book.
