The week's The Book List Meme, hosted by Rebecca at Lost in Books, is asking for the three best/worst sidekicks for a hero.
Dr. Watson of the Sherlock Holmes books is perhaps the most helpful of all sidekicks. Really, would Holmes even have thought of those answers if Watson hadn't been asking the right questions?
Ok, so maybe Fagin isn't really a hero, but I can't help but like the old guy. Granted he took horrible advantage of all of those orphan boys. Still, he did give them a place to live and food to eat and he really did care about them. But he would have been nothing if not for The Artful Dodger.
Speaking of heroes who would be nothing without their sidekick, Stephanie Plum needs a whole battery of sidekicks--Ranger, Joe Morelli, Lula and even Grandma Mazur who was my personal favorite.
Who would you pick as the best or worse sidekick?
Best Sidekick-James Boswell for Samuel Johnson in A Tour of The Hebrides-
ReplyDeleteSamwise Gamgee has got to be the best sidekick of all time. He'd be the one to take along going into a hellish situation, no doubt.
ReplyDeleteAnd Hermione Granger & Ron Weasley are close seconds.
It's hard to beat Watson. I thought of Jim in Huck Finn.
ReplyDeleteArchie Goodwin to Nero Wolf. He does 3/4 the work and gets very little credit.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Ms. Plum definitely needs side kicks to get anything accomplished. LOL!!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely want Grandma Mazur as a sidekick. Could you imagine the fun you would have!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say Best Sidekick is Sancho Panchez in Don Quixote. Worse sidekick is probably the other vampires that kid hangs around with in Twilight.
ReplyDeleteI confess that in the one Sherlock Holmes book I've read, I much preferred Watson to Holmes. He really is a great sidekick. I love the Artful Dodger. :-) And I'm a huge Grandma Mazur fan. She's the reason I read the Plum novels still.
