Life: It Goes On - August 4

I walked into my family room yesterday morning and was hit with the thought that I was tired of everything about it. That's never a good thing for my family - it means the rest of the week the house will be a mess as I rearrange, tweak and paint to give the place a face lift. More and more I'm about lightening things up.

Work was crazy this week; with people on vacation and another one sick for a couple of days, my workload almost doubled. Reading kept me sane. I finished one book and most of another one trying to put my brain back in a good place.

Here's What I'm:

Listening To: I created an Arcangelo Corelli station on Pandora (Baroque classical music) and I'm loving it. Perfect for listening to while reading. This piece, credited to Tomaso Albinoni, is truly one of the saddest pieces of music I've ever heard. Maybe because deep in my brain I still remember it from the movie Gallipoli? Talk about sad!

Watching: Movies based on books: "Pride & Prejudice," "Vanity Fair," and  "Under The Tuscan Sun" starring Dianne Ladd. It's one of those movies I always watch when it's on and it always makes me happy. It also makes me want to get around to reading the book on which it's based, a memoir by Frances Mayes.

Reading: Hungry: A Memoir by Darlene Barnes for an upcoming TLC tour, The Wednesday Sisters by Meg Waite Clayton on my Nook, and this week I'll finish Tom Perrota's The Abstinence Teacher on audio. I'm thinking next up on audio will be Mohsin Hamad's The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

Making: Nothing - The Big Guy's been out of town this week and the kids have been working or busy so the kitchen's been mostly closed.

Planning: A couple of upcoming staycations. There is so much to do nearby that we just don't get around to doing. We may be staying local, but we will not be staying at home. Those free hotel nights are getting put to use!

Grateful for: The glorious rainfall we had Thursday evening; the kind of rainfall where you can leave the windows open to enjoy the breeze and the wonderful fresh aroma. I spent an hour reading my Nook next to an open window.

Loving: Just picked strawberries. So yummy! I can't believe I've never grown them before.

Thinking: There are a lot of stupid, rude, unethical people out there. Can you tell it's been a stressful week at work?!

Looking forward to: August. When your kids are all in college, you still get to have the third month of summer. So stop with all of the fall/Halloween stuff in the stores and on Pinterest already!

What are you looking reading this week? Any last of the summer plans?

  3. I'll do that whole room rearranging thing now and then. I must get a crazy look in my eyes because it makes my family VERY nervous ;)

  4. You have some great books on your shelf right now. absolutely loved UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN. Her follow-up book is also wonderful. The movie of the first is one of my all-time favs. I own it and watch it now and then when husband is working:)

I just finished reading THE GIRL YOU LEFT BEHIND by Jojo Moyes. Comes out August 20. Am doing a giveaway starting tomorrow. It is wonderful.

  5. Ugh, sorry your work week was such a mess! Sounds awful.

Is growing strawberries easy? I love strawberries and would love to grow my own, but I have something of a black thumb, so I've never dared to try it. :p

  6. I was 'organizing' my Netflix queue last week and moved Under the Tuscan Sun up closer to the top. I think you would like the book.

And I hear you about all the fall stuff on Pinterest this week. There's still plenty more summer left to enjoy! Hope you have a great week.

  7. Sorry you had a rough week. It's always tough when someone goes on vacation. Double the work load.

Beautiful piece of music! Very relaxing.

Yeah, my boys went back to school on Thursday so it's hard not to think that summer is over. But I was just telling my mom that we have to remember it's still summer, at least until August is over, school or not. =O)

    Have a great week, Lisa!

  8. Can you believe that rain on Thursday night?! I was out with some girlfriends for dinner & drinks and we wound up staying in the restaurant 30 minutes later than we planned. The rain was coming down so hard and the wind was blowing like straight-line winds. It was a monsoon! We got at least 1 1/2 inches the evening. Amazing weather this summer. So cool last night, I was almost cold while walking around the Haymarket.

Love that music. I know I've heard it on several soundtracks over the years. Lovely.

Enjoy your staycations. We have a trip to South Dakota coming up, as well as one to Santa Fe. I love to travel, but I also like just hanging out in my town.

  9. I hear you about the Halloween stuff already!! It's been raining here off and on for the past week, with temps only about 75 for highs and mid 50's at night!!! I like your music choices and isn't Pandora great??!!

Have fun with your staycation and the hotel nights!!

  10. Gallipoli? I don't know that movie either. I'm starting to wonder if I'm losing my mind.

What do you do for work? Sorry it's been stressful. (I am always wondering if we both know people since I lived in Om for 5 years - surely we must know some of the same? but it might be crazy doing the 'do you know __ ?" game...)

  11. Reading keeps me sane sometimes too. :-) I've been feeling the redecorating bug recently, but probably won't act on it. Between work and a house full of company each weekend this month, I don't think anyone would appreciate my efforts.

    Have a great week!

  12. OH, I can't wait to hear your thought on The Abstinence Teacher! Now that could be good for book club since there's enough to discuss.

I'm having tough work days too but am hoping for things to settle in the next few weeks. I'm getting help!

    Have a great week
