Life: It Goes On - March 23

Is it spring? Is it winter? Apparently Mother Nature's just not sure yet. Which, I suppose, is par for the course in March. But after the coldest winter EVER (okay, maybe not EVER, but in decades), I'm ready to be able to throw open windows, haul out the flower pots, and enjoy evenings on the patio.

In the meantime, 40 Bags In 40 Days continues and having to be inside is helping me make great progress with that. From things as small as reducing what I'm carrying in my purse to the pickup load that The Big Guy took to the landfill today, I'm making great progress. All this from someone who makes a regular habit of purging "stuff!"

Here's What I'm:

Listening To: I'm essentially caught up with podcasts so this week I'll start listening to Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm by Kate Douglas Wiggin. It's one of the books on my Classics Club challenge list. I've got some doubts about it but have given myself permission to give up on it early if I'm not enjoying it.

Watching: Miss H and I watched a couple of episodes of "Orange Is The New Black" on Netflix but mostly it's been a lot of basketball for this girl. My Husker men got knocked out early but the women are moving on and our Creighton Bluejays play their second game tonight. But I'll watch any game...and I have!

Reading: I finally finished Outlander and will have a review this week. Right now I'm reading The Frangipani Hotel by Violet Kupersmith, also for a review this week.

Making: We're back to comfort food this week: asparagus/mushroom soup, brownies, homemade mac and cheese, and steel cut oatmeal.

Planning: We've been doing some major furniture rearranging this past week and we'll be getting that wrapped up this week and 40 Bags In 40 Days will continue. Even BG is getting on board!

Grateful for: A job where I could decide at 11:30 on Friday that I wanted to leave to go home and watch basketball and it was okay.

Loving: Seeing green in my lawn!

Feeling:  A lightness every time I finished sorting through a new area.

Thinking: I need to kick it up a notch on the working out and kick in with my new eating plan.

Looking forward to: Starting some building projects - shelves in a couple of rooms and a platform bed. I cannot find the shelves I need so I'm just going to have to make them. I have never used a power saw before - this could get interesting!

What have you been watching this week?

  1. No green grass here yet and still a few snow piles:( The 40 bags in 40 days is something I've been doing this month on a lesser scale. I think I've donated 10 huge bags between clothes and books.

    Have a great week.

  2. It's getting warmer and warmer here but still so chilly in the mornings. I'm excited for Orange is the New Black! Great job on your 40 bags in 40 days! And good luck with your shelves :)

  3. I am SO SAD that Wichita St got knocked out but WOW what a game (even if I only barely listened and only saw a few minutes. I was still cheering for them with all my heart.) and KU, too! Guess I will have to cheer on Iowa St.
I look forward to your words on Outlander. And I want to read that Hotel book so I hope you have encouraging things to say about that one, too.

  4. I wish I could just take a weekend and just do absolutely nothing. I didn't get to watch any movies this weekend but I did manage to read quite a bit which surprised me given all that was going on this past weekend.

  5. Ooh, I need to check out that 40 bags in 40 days. I need to do something like that. :D

Mmm, love the idea of all of that comfort food. All of that sounds really good right now.

I've been watching Call the Midwife on Netflix, super good!

  6. Spring has been hard on me this year--sunny, cloudy, snowy, rainy, cold, warm--talk about your roller coaster!

We just finished watching Orange is the New Black on NetFlix--I could only watch one episode per week as I found it so intense. Definitely well-done...but tough for a wimp like me to watch. I do have the audio book on order from the library, so I'll be interested to hear what that's like.

I just finished Outlander this week too, and am planning to reread Dragonfly in Amber using roughly the same reading pace as TuesdayBookTalk established for Outlander.

I tried listening to Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm a few years ago, but it didn't do much for me so I quit it midway through. I'll be interested to hear if you like it well enough to finish it.

    Happy Spring!

  7. Isn't it nice to see some green grass peeking up from the ground? I'm anxious to get our windows washed, but I need to wait a bit longer. Once the pollen starts to blow, everything will be a mess again. (No, nothing is in bloom yet, but I know it won't be too much longer!)

  8. The forecast here says rain is on its way tomorrow or the next day--I sure hope so! I wish I could send you some of my sunshine, Lisa.

My mom loves Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. I haven't read it, although I have seen the movie. The one with Shirley Temple.

I am anxious to read The Frangpini Hotel, and look forward to your review.

I switched to a bigger purse (more of a tote) when my daughter was completely potty trained. It's come in handy--I carry more of her stuff in it than my own (you never know when you might need crayons). But it's so dang big. I swear, it attracts stuff--junk. I have to clean it out every few days, and I'm surprised at what I find. I've been thinking of switching back to a little purse (one that can at least hold my e-reader), and just carrying her little backpack around when we need it.

Have a great rest of the week!

  9. The weather here is unsure as well. I thought we finally have spring until I woke up this morning to snow. I hadn't been following the weather for a while, so it was a shocker to see white on the ground. So glad that you are making a lot of progress with the 40 Bags in 40 Days!
