Cat Thursday

It's been more than a month now since we lost of big boy. I'm mostly done sobbing. Which is not to say that I don't tear up almost daily when I think of him. Like when I don't have a cat trying to mooch my breakfast cereal milk or the deli meat while I make myself a sandwich for lunch or the melted ice cream at the bottom of a McFlurry. I miss him when there's not a cat sitting in a chair across the dinner table from me or on the bench behind my chair, tapping my shoulder to remind me that he'd happily take any meat leftovers. I miss finding him in funny places or seeing him curled up under his favorite pine tree in the back yard. I miss him curling up in my lap while I work at the computer or snuggling in as close as possible when I'm relaxing on the couch. And I miss him because his sister misses him and I feel terrible leaving her all alone when I go to bed.

Anyone who says cats don't have big personalities has never met Iroh. He was one of a kind.

  2. Oh no Lisa, I am so sorry. 18 years ago we had 5 cats and we are down to just one who is now 16. Each had a different, quirky personality and 3 chose me and 2 chose the hub as their favorite human. All lost a huge void in our lives when they passed.

I am so sorry - hugs.

  3. Now see what you did? You made me tear up, too, because now I'm remembering my cat who died almost four years ago. And I sobbed for even more than a month. Getting another cat did help a lot. Now I need to find her.

  4. I'm so sorry! You posted about it on Facebook, right? I hope I left my condolences there too. You know, we never truly get over a loss, even the loss of a beloved pet. It's always there. Anyone who says pets are not real members of the family are crazy. Some people might wonder why we put ourselves through the pain and sadness since we know they do have such short lives, but I wouldn't trade those times of comfort and joy for anything, no matter how short. Rest in peace, dear Iroh.

  5. Oh I'm so sorry for your loss but am glad you're doing okay now. Hopefully the memories off all his crazy behavior will be more fond than tearful soon.
